Each move and counter are more in-depth and interactive, providing new and improved control of the wrestler. Realistic elements have also been added to matches, such as a rope break and character statistics that affect performance. Depending on your strength, stamina, speed, and techniques, some wrestling matches may be more challenging than others. For the first time in a wrestling game, the Elimination Chamber has been added as a kind of match. This special challenge joins the list of tag teams, battle royales, and traditional one-on-one matches.Over 50 superstars are available for play in WWE SmackDown: Here Comes the Pain. They reflect the active 2002 WWE SmackDown roster, but the list is also made up of legends such as Jimmy Superfly Snuka and Rowdy Roddy Piper. You can also pick from the other available superstars, including Brock Lesnar, The Rock, The Undertaker, Kurt Angle, and Triple H in a royal rumble. Choose wisely as you compete in a grueling season for the glory of the WWE Championship. You can even create your own wrestler and play the game as your own prizefighting champion. The animations, audio, and crowd elements are the realistic kind you’ve come to expect from PlayStation 2 games.The Season Mode in Here Comes the Pain starts with the Backlash Pay-Per-View. From there, your chosen character fights for months until their WrestleMania match. In between bouts, you can wander freely around the arena in a unique backstage, semi-open world environment. This lets you talk with other wrestlers and managers so you can set up matches or demand title shots. The Season Mode was put together by WWE staff writers, making it as authentic to WWE television as possible. There are also 17 arenas to fight in, letting you brawl before a crowd or backstage.
