Released 12 years after the 1975 Steven Spielberg film, Jaws makes his first and only appearance in an 8-bit video game. The game begins with an overhead view of you sailing a boat, trying to avoid the Great White. If Jaws rams your boat, the screen changes to a side view scene where you fight him as a diver, from a mini-sub, or from your boat.
If you manage to avoid Jaws, you eventually get hit by another sea creature, which also changes the game to side view action. Whether battling Jaws or not, you'll be shooting an assortment of sea life such as rays, jellyfish, and crabs, gathering up as many conch shells and starfish as possible. The more conch shells you acquire, the more effective your attacks against Jaws. The conch shells also help you acquire a transmitter and a strobe light. These tools help you in your struggle with the shark.
While playing Jaws, bonus rounds interrupt the action from time to time. You can collect extra conch shells in the bonus rounds by bombing jellyfish from an airplane. You will make it to the final scene of the game when your attacks on Jaws have reduced his power indicator to zero. When this happens the action switches to the surface of the ocean and it's your boat against the shark. If you ram your boat into Jaws, you win the game.
